MBCI’s Middle School Takes the Stage with Moana Jr.

May 2026

Our Grades 5 – 8 students set their sights beyond the reef with MBCI’s second middle school musical on February 26 – 28, 2026. Our students and staff “plussed up” the experience after the initial success of Into the Woods Jr. two years ago in the drama room, and took our production of Disney’s Moana Jr. onto the big stage in Jubilee Place. The cast enjoyed four sold-out performances of the lower section of JP and had audiences on their feet and clapping along.

This production brought together a cast of Grade 5–8 students, many of whom were stepping onto a stage for the first time. With high school students serving as mentors throughout the many months of rehearsals and as stage crew, we’re grateful for the ways students shared this experience across many grades – building real connections and reminding us that the stage is a special place for shaping community.

Moana Jr tells the story of the strong-willing title character as she sails across the Pacific to save her village and discover her heritage. With beloved songs like “How Far I’ll Go,” “You’re Welcome,” and “Shiny,” the 60-minute show delivered both the heart of the original film and a noticeably amped-up production value befitting the larger venue in Jubilee Place.

Congratulations to the cast and crew on a truly exceptional performance. Thank you to those on our team of staff who worked since September to bring this musical to life, as well as the many family and community members who volunteered so generously toward its success.
