Music & Performing Arts

MBCI students build on a rich history of excellence in the area of music and performing arts. With choral, instrumental, and performing arts opportunities offered in every grade, students are able to grow in musicianship and performance skills through their years at MBCI. Beyond class study, there are a wide variety of co-curricular options that help our students take their gifts to the next level. One of the most rewarding features of our program is the way that students are drawn together from across grades, creating mentorship and leadership opportunities, inter-grade relationships and community, and lasting memories.

Choir & Band

Our music program is designed to promote musical literacy and appreciation, as well as provide the opportunity to pursue excellence in performance and musicianship; helping students grow and share their musical gifts and, for some, prepare for post-secondary studies and careers in the area of music. Courses and co-curriculars include: Concert choir and Concert Band, Junior Vocal Jazz and Jazz Band, and Chamber Singers. Musicians participate in annual music retreats, the Brandon Jazz Festival, Manitoba Band Association (MBA) and Choralfest competitions/performances, and perform in several MBCI concerts throughout the year.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts are an important creative outlet for many students; building confidence and helping students find their individual voice. All MBCI Middle School students are introduced to performing as part of our Practical Arts program, and have the opportunity to choose Drama as an elective in the years that follow. Drama students have several performance opportunities throughout the year with a focus on creating events that build community and serve others.

Outside of class there are many ways for students to practice their developing skills whether through our Improv Teams or participating in musicals. The grand scale of MBCI productions helps include a variety of student gifts and interests including stage crew, make-up, costumes and set building.
