Feb. sketch. The theme for this month is "Expressionism", which is based on the early 20th century art movement which pulled away from reality types of painting and focused on the emotional portion of the human spiriti to lead the artists' choices about color, etc. Project should include dramatic colors, with expressive lines, and distortion or exaggerated views and angles. (think of The Scream or Starry Night) Famous artists from this time include Vincen Van Gogh (later years), Henri Matisse,James Ensor, and Edvard Munsch. Project is due 1st art class in March.
Jan. sketch. The theme is "pattern". In our world, patterns fall into 2 categories; regular (where elements repeat themselves regularly and predictably, like a gardener putting their flowers every 10cm in the dirt) and irregular, (where elements repeat themselves in a pattern that is not recognizeable or repeatable, like oak leaves spread on a forrest floor) This project is due the 1st art class of February.
Dec. sketch. The theme is "Post Secret" God and me. Design post an annonymous post card that says and shows your relationship with God. The words can be things you'd say to God, what you feel about God, what confuses you about God, where your relationship is with God, what you have trouble believing, etc. The words should be bold, and to the point, and the art should also help the viewer understand what you're trying to say as a visual artist. These will NOT be presented in class and only I (Mr. Braun) will see them and know who the artist is. (so I can mark the quality of art) These are due the 1st art class in January.
Nov. sketch. The theme is "space". Artists use techniques to show space (or depth) in a piece of art. The techniques are 1) size and position 2) persepective 3) atmospheric perspective 4) overlapping. Use at least 3 or 4 techniques in your art this month. Present your art the 1st class in December. 5% bonus for showing me your completed art on or before Nov. 15th.
