Grade 12 Computer Science

Here is the link to my tutorials on Youtube.

May 3 2012 - Students will be completing their personal projects this week.
They will be presenting them to the class starting next week.

We will then be studying the "Unity 3D" software package. It is a free game creation program that is available online.

March and April

Term 3 Kodu and Personal Project

We have completed a section on Kodu. This is a free game creating
software package that is available to all for download at home.
The graphics are cartoonlike but of very good quality.
The students have learned how to program games and have been assigned

3 games to create:
1. A race style game with scores.
2. A maze type game with the walls of a castle.
3. A golf game with multiple holes.
Students now are brainstorming to come up with their own idea for a
game. They will have to describe this game in advance and then actually
create the game that they have envisioned.
Remember to check my tutorials using the link above!

Term 2 Flash Grade 12 Computer Science

As we start Term 2 we leave Visual Basic behind and turn our attention to Flash. Flash is a program used for 2 and 3 dimensional animations. We will be dealing with 2-D only.
Beside the artistic side of Flash - creating the scenes using imported and drawn graphics we will learn some more advanced ActionScript2 programming codes.
1. Our first project is to create a Mario World style platform game. This involves code to enable the character to jump, land, change
      directions etc.
2. Using some physics codes we will see how objects can move in different directions while being affected by gravity, wind and other
forces. A mini putt golf course with at least 3 different holes might be used here.
3. The students will also be creating a "room" game. The program will involve creating multiple rooms that the player must find and
enter. They  will then have to accomplish a task in each room in order to advance to the next room.
There will not be any testing before Christmas.

Grade 12 List of Mr. Hudson’s favourites that he has found over the years:

1.      1.  Advanced Pong game – some sophisticated programming here
  2. Monopoly

T       The text book deals quite heavily with saving and retrieving of data
in Visual Basic. These techniques have many applications from
business (storing and retrieving client account information) to gaming.

The Grade 12 students will do a fair amount of self directed learning.
I will be available for help and direction, but reading and following
directions from the textbook will
be a big part of the course.
