Reading Record March and April
My Participation Goals for Term 1
Novel Report (Term 1 only)
Novel Review Expository Essay (Term 3)
I am David novel study: Keep up to date with our chapter readings and question sheets (including the vocabulary words). We will have a quiz once we have read chapters 1 to 4 and another after we have read chapters 5 to 8. Students are allowed to use your chapter question sheets during the quiz. There are 20 True, False questions, Vocubulary questions in multiple choice format and questions to answer in complete sentences.
April 23 (8B-April 24) Purple reading record needs weekly home reading totals for weeks 23 to 28 and 6 parent initials (one for each week on that sheet). No marks will be given for home reading for term 3 unless I receive those sheets with initials.
April 22 is the last day of the homework reading program. Students who have lagged behind on their reading have until April 30th to catch up on their minutes of reading. In term 3, there were 9 weeks of home reading from February 13th till April 22nd. There was no required reading during spring break. The reading mark for Term 3 will be calculated as follows: 9 weeks times 80 minutes per week equals 720 minutes total, which will allow me to give a score out of 72 for the term 3 home reading mark).
April 30: 1st drafts of stories 4,5, and 6 (green, pink, yellow). 1st & 2nd drafts of stories 1,2, and 3 (white, ivory, blue) are late. TBA: 2nd drafts of stories 4,5, and 6 There are 6 short stories to write. The first drafts (worth 50 marks) are written in the exercise books provided by the teacher. The plan must be completed on the correct colored sheet before the first draft is written. Once the teacher corrects that first draft, a second draft (worth another 50 marks) is to be completed. Second drafts are written on the color-coded lined sheets provided. Students must remember to fil in the self editting and self-evaluations of all drafts. Before interim reports deadline, I must have corrected all first drafts of the 6 stories using the plan and self editing sheets.
May 9 (8A & 8C) and May 10 (8B): Novel Review in Formal Essay Format Plus Creative Piece. This is the final novel review of the year. The format is exactly the same as the last one (due in March). Students have been given a neon green sheet to staple to the typed or hand-written novel review essay. The instructions are identical to the one that is still on the web site, so if they misplace it, they can print an old one off and staple that to their work.
March 14 (8A & 8B) or March 15 (8C): Novel Review Expository Essay and Creative Piece. This is the first novel review due during term 3. The next and final review will follow this same format. Students are to hand in their novel review in essay format and be ready to present their creative piece on the due date. I have given many suggestions of what they could do to present such as a PowerPoint presentation, a movie, a new book cover, a movie-style poster, a diarama, a creative writing piece where they write an alternate or extended ending, etc. Students are to staple their instruction sheet to their printed copy or loose leaf. If they have misplaced the copy given in class, they may print the one on this site (just above).
