A record 106 MBCI jazz students recently returned from a very successful three day trip to the Brandon Jazz Festival where they performed, attended clinics and other school performances, and learned more about the art form of jazz.  All our groups received glowing reviews from adjudicators. The students were treated to performances by jazz trumpeter Greg Gisbert, as well as the New York Voices.  Check them out at www.newyorkvoices.com.  Thanks also to our GREAT parent chaperones (Mr. and Mrs. Lysack, Mr. and Mrs. Schreibmaier, Mr. Wsiaki, Mrs. Peters, Mrs. Dicks, Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. Taves, and Mr. and Mrs. Rempel, whose active participation helped make our trip run very like clockwork!

We would like to extend our congratulations to the many music students at MBCI who participated in this year’s Winnipeg Music Festival! 

The MBCI Choral Concert of March 20^th was a resounding success!

The Grade 6 Band and the Grade 7 Band will perform at the Manitoba Band Association Level 1 Band Festival at North Kildonan MB Church.  The Grade 6 Band is scheduled for 9:20 a.m. on Friday April 13; the Grade 7 Band is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 11.

MBCI’s Concert Band and Concert Choir will be touring to Texas from April 18-28.  All parents and students of those groups have a meeting in Jubilee Place on Tuesday April 10 at 7:00 pm.

Congratulations to the following students who have successfully auditioned for Manitoba Honour Bands: Willem Labun (7), Kezia Gesell (7), Andrew Pavel (8), Riana Gesell (7), Fred Warner (8), Jennifer Schreibmaier (9), Abby Koch (10), Alex Czehryn (10), Andrea Dicks (10), Hannah Doerksen (9), Tanner Gesell (9), and Paul Klassen (9).

A while ago, parents received information on the Manitoba Band Association Junior Band Summer Camps held at MBCI and three other locations in the city. These camps are geared toward students with 1-3 years of experience on their band instrument. Many of our students have greatly benefited from these camps, and had a lot of fun meeting new friends with similar interests and values. The dates for this summer’s camps are August 12-17, 2012. Interested students should register now - the MBCI location typically becomes full by the end of April. Contact Andrew Klassen (667-8210, ext. 5002) or the MBA (663-1226) for further information.
