Devotional                          Day 4   Friday, September 10, 2010

Ahead of You

You may not want to talk or even think about football. If you’ve tried to stay loyal to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, this year has been a tough one to say the least. This year you might just be a little ticked about how good Kevin Glenn is doing out in Hamilton. You might be a little annoyed at how good Barrin Simpson is playing in green and you’re hoping for some payback this Sunday against the Roughriders.  Here’s an excerpt that I came across:

Our school football coach was like a member of the CIA. . .who often sneaked into pregame practices of the opposing team. Sitting in the stands undetected, he’d scout their biggest and best players, analyze their plays, determine their weaknesses, and log notes about the condition of the playing field. And based on all of this foreknowledge, he’d compile a game plan – a strategy of attack that he then communicated to our team.

Come game time, his advance work paid off. Every play was engineered to pit our strengths against their opponent’s weaknesses. Naturally, he could not play the game for us – we had to carry the ball. But we carried it best when we followed his instructions.

You don’t know what kinds of challenges you’ll face next week, next month, next year. . . But God does because he’s scouted ahead.

“ The Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you or abandon you.” Deuteronomy 31:8

If you’re looking for a new game plan because life’s getting to be a little too much, don’t forget that God walks ahead of you. If you follow his plan, you’ll go places. There are many people at MBCI who have experience in following God’s plan. If you’re ever wondering if it works, just talk to a teacher or myself. We’ve got plenty of stories where God’s plan was the best plan and following Him was rewarding. Just ask.

Prayer:

Dear God – Thank you that you go ahead of us. Thank you for the many stories of you coming through in a pinch. You’ve made it pretty apparent that you can be trusted. Help us to turn to you; I know you’ll be guiding us.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
