Comfortable?
Were you ready for your first full day of school today?
This summer was a busy one for Maria, my wife, and me. We had some “firsts” happen in our lives. We both had a sister get married, so two family weddings . . . and we also welcomed our first child to the world. Her name is Molly Grace and we think she’s the cutest baby ever.
When babies are born, they are the most innocent thing you’ll ever see. They are completely dependant on their parents and it’s important that parents provide good care. One thing that’s pretty important with a baby is keeping her warm. A baby’s body can produce a serious amount of heat. If the baby’s wrapped in too many layers, she might show she has a fever. If the baby isn’t wrapped enough, her hands and feet will lose their pink color and start turning white.
I see it having a similarity to our school experience. Just like babies need to be comfortable to be healthy, so people need to be comfortable to flourish. We all have things that make us nervous and then words don’t come out right. So if we can make our school a place where we all feel comfortable and we respect each other, we can really enjoy our learning environment.
If you’ve been here many years, think about making someone new feel more comfortable here. Consider how much you feel at home at MBCI and see if you can’t make it feel like that for someone else.
That said, if you’ve only started at MBCI today, please challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone and talk to students around you. You know how babies cry when something’s not right? This is your school too – feel free to get involved; let us get to know YOU!
My prayer is that we can say to each other what King Saul said to David, “May the Lord reward you well for the kindness you have shown me today.” 1 Samuel 24:19
Prayer:
Dear God – Help us to start the year off right. Help us to seize opportunities to make others comfortable here at MBCI. You’ve put us under the same roof for a reason. Thank you for the friendships that we’ll gain this year.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
