Devotional Day 6, Wednesday, May 26th , 2010
You Will Become
On this day, 22 years ago (May 26, 1988) in Edmonton, AB – the Edmonton Oilers beat the Boston Bruins 6-3, completing a four game sweep, to win their fourth Stanley Cup in five years. The MVP for the playoffs is none other than Wayne Gretzky who has 31 assists, setting a NHL playoff record.
You’ve probably considered this at some point – how long does it take to become a professional? It could be in music, drama or sports. You may have asked this question of your parents, “How do you know all of this stuff? How long did it take you to remember all of that?”
It takes time and effort to become good at something. It’s the same for our character. It takes times to grow and mature and get past some of the struggles we have with ourselves. Don’t be discouraged though. God is at work.
Philippians 2:13 ~ For God is at work within you, helping you want to obey him, and then helping you do what he wants.
“You may not be happy with yourself right now, but God is not finished working with you.”
Philippians 1:6 ~ For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Give God some time; He can complete what he starts with you.
Hebrews 13:20-21 ~ Now may the God of peace…equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in you that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
“You will never be able to please God just on your own effort, but through Jesus Christ and His work in you, you WILL become what God wants you to be.”
Prayer:
Dear God – Thank you that you are working with us and in us, to bring about stronger character and more fruits of your Spirit. Help us to be willing to let you work in our lives and trust you with our whole selves.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
