He Provides
I love pizza! I had been super busy and stressed, working diligently on a newsletter of which I am the managing editor. I finally reached a stopping point that evening, and received a nice note from the executive editor, "Good job...now relax, and go get some pizza!"
Ahhh...the power of the spoken word! It even works in email, for suddenly and without warning, I found myself craving pizza. A frantic call to my husband's office resulted in no good news. He would not be able to leave until later when the little pizza shop would probably be closed. His encouraging words to me were, "Go make yourself a sandwich!" I discouragingly explained (that means I whined!), "But I want PIZZA," and with no hope of getting any, this obedient wife went upstairs to the kitchen and made herself cereal! Back down to the office to work, about an hour later, I heard my husband calling, "Come see the provision of the Lord!"
Well, you guessed it! I ran upstairs to find a huge box sitting on my kitchen counter, and in it a wonderful pepperoni and sausage pizza, homemade, from the little Italian pizza shop! Now--want to hear the rest of the story? My husband related that driving by on his way home, he noticed lights still on at the little shop. He stopped, went inside, only to hear, "We're closed." Knowing his wife WELL, my husband asked, "But would there even be SOMETHING I could take home and bake myself?" The family owners huddled together a bit, then one walked over to the oven. On top of it was a large pizza box. "Here," he said. "If you don't mind something a little overdone, you're welcome to it!" And with that, he gave the pizza to my husband and would not accept any payment.
I'm sure my husband couldn't wait to show-and-tell the goodness and the provision of the Lord to his wife, a weary, tired new Italian editor, who just happens to love pizza! The whole family quickly devoured "someone's" never-picked-up, slightly overdone, now FREE pizza--after I got my share, of course! What a PERSONAL Lord we serve--He provides not only our needs but our wants too, even a real Italian pepperoni pizza!
Phillipians 4:19 ~ But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (KJV).
Prayer:
Dear God – You provide for us. We’ve heard this said through all the devotionals this week – you are going to take care of us. Help us to trust you and put our hope in you. It’s a pleasure to be a part of your family; a son, a daughter.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
