Broken Vessel

Heb 11:34 ~ Through Christ our weakness is turned into strength.

God is like the ultimate mechanic. You rarely see Him at the dealership checking out the new models. He is more at home in the junkyard. He will take a broken-down shell-of-a -car and turn it into an automotive masterpiece. Why does He choose to work with such frail subjects time and time again? Because our human weakness provides the ideal opportunity for Him to display His divine power.

God doesn’t work like us. He prefers to pour from a broken pitcher. He is more comfortable around feeble arms and weak knees. For He chooses “the weak things of the world to shame the strong” (I Cor 1:27b).

The Lord is an artist and He prefers to start with an empty canvas and a clean palette. He desires to begin with a shapeless lump of soft clay that can be molded according to His will. So that when He is finished, His masterpiece will give the potter, (and not the clay vessel), all the glory.

Did you know that in First Corinthians 12:22, the parts of the body of Christ that seem to be weaker are labeled as “indispensable”? Isn’t it nice to be so important to God for doing absolutely nothing?

[We often look up to people that are popular and think highly of individuals with amazing natural abilities.] Yet to God, it is not a matter of our equipment and position, but as Oswald Chambers wrote, “It's a matter of our poverty”. It is not what we bring with us before the Lord that counts, but what God puts into our empty vessel that really matters. He doesn’t long for your offerings and sacrifices, He simply desires a broken and contrite heart. That is the soft clay that He can work with.

Dear God - You know how weak I truly am. Use my weakness as the perfect opportunity to reveal Your infinite strength. I thank you for loving me in spite of my shortcomings. Work a miracle in my life. Let others look at what You have accomplished through me and realize that it could only be the Lord’s work. Mold me as a potter molds the clay.

Jesus’ Name, Amen
