Devotional Day 6, Monday, Jan 11, 2010
Revisiting friends
I hope your Christmas break was a good one. I know school has been on for a week and the Christmas break seems long gone. Whether your break was good or not-so-good, I want to welcome you back to MBCI. It’s 2010 and it’s a fresh year. There’s a lot to look forward to.
Do you make resolutions? Do you make goals for yourself now that another year has passed? You may not believe in making resolutions. Perhaps you’ve seen someone try to make goals and then not attain them. No matter if you like setting goals for yourself or not, a new year presents us with an opportunity to revisit some things.
Over the holidays, I was reminded about my friends. I was pleasantly reminded that I have a lot of friends. I have a lot of people that care about me. Sometimes, leaving home for a bit helps remind me of the blessings I have at home. What about you? Do you have people that care about you? Do you have people that you care about?
It’s important to have both. We’re going to spend some time thinking about our friends this week. I think a lot of times, I forget that the friends I have are people that I’ve chosen. You lose track of people that you don’t hang out with, but you get closer to the people you do hang out with. And to be with friends, means you have to make plans to get together. And that’s a choice that we make. So if you think you have some friends you might be better off without, or you think you don’t have enough good friends, pay attention to devotions over the next couple of days. I think you’ll learn something from them just like I did.
Romans 5:6-11 reads: 6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Prayer:
Dear God – Thank you for taking an interest in us, your creation. You are the potter and we are the clay, yet you desire to be friends with us. Thank you for that. Give us more and more divine revelation of the friendship that we can have with you.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
