DEVOTION Day 5, September 30th, 2009

Marc and Kora collapsed with a couple of cold sodas after a long, hot day of work. In a few days their short-term missions trip would end and team members would split up and return home.

“I can’t go home,” Marc complained. “My friends at home are not like you guys at all. They say they’re Christians, but everything bad I’ve ever learned to do I learned from them. People here are pumped. They read their Bibles without being nagged. They try hard to be good to one another. Everyone wants to get closer to God.”

“There’s no one like that at home?”

“My parents are okay. But that’s not the same. At school there’s a few religious weirdos. There is a church that I’ve visited a couple of times, but the kids here seem better.”

“Maybe your parents will let you go to a Bible study there or something.”

“Yeah, maybe. I just don’t want to go back to being like my old friends. I need something more than that. I’m going to miss everyone here.”

At church, camp, or a retreat, you may have glimpsed what can happen when Christians live for God. The incredible friendship in the book of Acts (in the Bible), doesn’t happen by accident. You have to pursue it by joining together to pray, study, worship, share, and care. No one rides the bench. Everyone participates.

The Christians you know may not be your first choice in friends. You might dislike their clothes, music, hair or humor. They may go to the wrong school. Those things are less important than the fact that you all belong to God’s family.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe. ~ Acts 2:42-43

Prayer:

Dear God – Help me to get involved in what You are doing right here at MBCI. Help me to remember that if I want to experience fellowship like the Christians in Acts, I need to do my part.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
