DEVOTION Day 1, September 16, 2009
Do you exercise? Are you the type of person who gets decked out from head to toe in a bright tracksuit with a matching headband before you can pump your body into shape? Whether you’re a keep-fit fanatic or casually active, don’t forget to exercise kindness.
Joppa was a busy seaport. It was a city sought after by many nations and it changed ownership numerous times as nations captured and conquered it over and over again. Many of the men were employed as sailors and spent most of their time out at sea. Unfortunately disasters at sea happened regularly, leaving wives without husbands and children with fathers. One lady in Joppa took it upon herself to care. Her name was Tabitha. She began making clothes for the widows and the needy. Her kindness was the talk of the town. She did so much in fact, that when she died, many people came to see her. The Bible says that, “The room was filled with widows who were weeping. . “
She was always doing kind things for other and helping the poor. Acts 9:36
Do you want to be remembered like that? I do. Is your kindness making an impact on others?
Prayer:
Dear God – Kindness is a language that anyone can understand. The deaf can hear it and the blind can see it. Help us to speak it more – help us to be kind.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
P.S. Did you know that the widows who knew Tabitha went to find the Apostle Peter in a nearby town when she died? When Peter came to Joppa, the Lord gave Peter the power to raise Tabitha from the dead!
