DEVOTION
What kind of opportunities come your way every day? We’re not talking about opportunities for you to travel, get rich or get your high school diploma without finishing 12 grades of school. Have you looked for opportunities to be last since we talked about it on Friday? We’re talking about seeing opportunities to put others first and ourselves last.
Alisha elbowed Tim. “Isn’t that the boy who moved in across the street from you?” The guy she pointed out was walking, head down, alone down the hallway at school. He didn’t look at anyone and looked afraid.
“I guess so,” Tim answered. “He was at the bus stop this morning. He sat a couple of seats in front of me – Stop looking right at him! He’ll see us.” He turned the other way so the new kid wouldn’t spot him.
Alisha glared at Tim. “You’re pathetic. I’m going to say hi and welcome him to school.”
“Just leave him alone,” Tim argued. “I’m sure he’ll make friends. He’s fine. He has to fend for himself like everyone else.”
Tim pulled at Alisha when she started to head in the new kid’s direction. “Let’s go,” Tim begged. “He’ll think I want to be his best friend or something.”
If we all think of each other first, we’ll all have our needs taken care of. Proverbs 11:17 reads:
Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel.
Prayer:
Dear God – Remind us when we don’t want to go out of our way to be kind. Help us to show care for those around us and in so doing, nourish our souls.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen
