Class of '64

On a magnificent weekend in July the class of ‘64 celebrated their 50th anniversary. The Winnipeg committee of eight prepared four events attended by nearly forty people.

At Friday evening’s icebreaker, Ernie & Ruth Epp welcomed us to their home, which has a splendid view of the city: a great place to start conversations. Another classmate, Ruth Wiebe provided the perfect setting for a Saturday brunch. We gathered around white-clothed tables, surrounded by flowers, shaded by tall trees, and shared a fantastic feast. Friendships were renewed, and new acquaintances were made.

On Saturday night, De Luca’s served dinner, but the festivities were created by the class.  Continuous Powerpoint showed all of us, then and now; funny gifts and silly contests interrupted more formal speeches, while memories flowed easily. We thank former teachers, Abe Friesen, Henry Visch, and Peter Peters for their company and their comments.

The Sunday morning worship service brought us back to MBCI.  Speakers were Mr. John Regehr, Jackie Tiessen, and Dave DeFehr. The class  contributed generously to the “Heart of a Servant” fund, creating awards for MBCI students who serve in their community. We trust that the school will continue to nurture the educational and social experiences that we valued most at MBCI.
